Hi everyone,

I'm soon to replace the upper and lower balljoints on both of my
swivel hubs using a repair kit.

Does anyone know what size the large retaining nut that holds the
balljoint onto the swivel hub is? I think that it's probably 45mm but
I only have access to my mini at weekends and can't measure it right
now.

I'm guessing that a large adjustable wrench will be the best tool to
use to remove/replace this nut.

Thanks in advance,

The Mini pre-dates metric, it's 1.5" AF.  Most motor factors and Mini
specialists sell this socket, it also fits the flywheel bolt.

Much appreciated - thanks Shaun.

Something's just occured to me that they could well be metro hubs (the
discs are 8.4" vented so would have come from a metro).

If this was the case is it possible that they're 45mm?

45mm is larger than 1.75"? I have a Draper ball joint nut socket (1.5")
which is listed as fitting maestro, metro, mini and 1100/1300.  Unless they
changed the ball joints on metros later on, it should still fit.

Cheers,
Si.

And Elvis was sitting next to Si in the spaceship, which I thought was
kinda weird, but then they turned to me and said:

Early Metros are the same as Minis - later Metros use a sealed balljoint
unit with a larger hex section.

On my drum-braked 1984 Mini it is 11/16"

I think you'll find that's the size of the hub nut, the original poster was
after the balljoint.  I've had several Mini's both drum and disk braked and
all balljoints have been 1.5".
