I was looking at retro fitting Mk1 type equipment into the pickup and was
wondering what would need to be done for the electrics.  To fit the switch
panel it would mean changing the controls on the column as well to get rid
of the key barrel.  Would I need the whole column or is it possible to put a
Mk1 cowl and indicator onto a mk3 column?  If I have to change the column
does it mean changing the steering rack?

I would like to know before I decide whether it is worth doing as it could
be a real pain in the bum if it takes that much work!!

Cheers

Hi,
you will not need to change the rack. The rack matches the steering arms
which are different on the MK1. The column will be diferent for the MK1,
because it has different mountings for the indicator switch. The inner
column should be the same for all. The wiring loom is completely different,
and you may have to find a MK1 loom to save youself having to make one.
Various other electrical items are different, but Pick-ups have a lot of MK1
parts on them. although the later ones have later parts.

The mk 1 inner column has the contact for the horn button in the end of it.

Ah, yes, I forgot that, but it is only a hole in the end and another hole in
the side. There may be minor other differences also, but I am going entirely
from memory.
