Don't be silly, it's not possible to get to temperatures that low
outside of a deep freeze!

Met office Snip:

Freezing temperatures as low as -14 ?C and snow look set to hit much of the
country, the Met Office is advising, with the cold spell lasting for several
days.

Next week many parts of the UK will see a major change to the weather as a
strong northerly wind brings very low temperatures to all parts of the
country.

Heavy snow is expected in some areas, particularly Scotland and eastern
areas of England, bringing hazardous conditions and disruption to travel.

Daytime temperatures will struggle to get above freezing and, with a strong,
biting wind, it will feel even colder.

The public are advised to keep in touch with local Met Office forecasts as
more detail on the areas likely to be most affected will be provided over
the next few days.

Notes:

Lowest temperature ever recorded in the UK was -27.2 ?C at Braemar
(Aberdeenshire) on 10 January 1982 and -27.2 ?C at Altnaharra (Highland) on
30 December 1995

Lowest minimum in England was -26.1 ?C at Newport (Shropshire) on 10 January
1982

Lowest daytime maximum temperatures in England are -11.3 ?C at Newport
(Shropshire) on 11 January 1982 and -11.1 ?C at Preston Montford
(Shropshire) on 10 January 1982

At Heathrow, the lowest daytime maximum temperature is -6.2 ?C, recorded on
12 January 1987

I thought everyone in the UK ran on pure water.

Yes it is - step outside, common in europe. Suprisingly its not cold
just a dry cold.

In the Snowy area - eg Smiggin Holes, Roy and HG put that on the map :)
  - it does get down to that also. You must lead a sheltered life.

Don't they have cold weather in Melbourne, did Peter Beattie send down
some good stuff?

celsius)

Erm, a place in southern Germany recorded -42 on the weekend! I would think
my deep freezer warm considering that...
My Maxi once froze at -15, and yes it was enough antifreeze, but too old
:-( BTW, using 20W-50 isn't a good idea at below -10 or -15 anymore as it
will be to thick then.

After last weeks sub-zero -8  to -13  in some parts of the UK,
I think its time to check your sun roof and window guides, we now have 15
and 16 degrees ,
Crazy weather or what ?

Hi,
I spent a week in Romania on an aid mission, (in the Mini BTW) and the
temperature was below -20 degrees, and that's COLD.

That's not cold!  It's -25 degrees C here in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan
Canada now, with the windchill making it closer to -40!  Just typical winter
weather...

You might want to rethink that.  The heater comes in handy as extra
emergency engine cooling to stop it from boiling over.  Bit of a sauna
in the car but better than being stuck in the middle of nowhere with
no water!

Went for 50% antifreeze... I learned my lesson a few weeks back when the
-7 degs C froze my engine block solid... I only had about 20% antifreeze
in :(
