There is no fuse for the headlights on a Mini AFAIK.
The number one cause of both headlights failing at once is that one
failed long ago and wasn't noticed. When the other failed it appeared
that they both failed at once.
It is also possible that you have corroded connectors on the lamps.
If they did indeed both fail at the same time you need to check the
wiring from a common point back to the switch. Are the running lights
working?

Kelley
Hi Kelly,
Thanks for your tips. You are right there is no seperate fuse for the models
until 1988. I forgot to mention my mini is a 1991 Cooper (last model with
carb). From 1988 they made things a bit more complicated. In the wiring
diagram (in the Haynes manual) I can see the dim lights are fed seperately
from the connection on the startermotor, a line-fuse, a " dim/dip
resistor" (function?) and a "dip/dim relay".
I checked the connection on the lamps and the switch. They look and feel
right.
So I am still loking for this fuse.
Cheers again.

I don't know where the fuse is, but to help you, then the 'dim-dip'
relay switches the headlights on through a resistor whenever the
sidelights are on.
It may be that the relay is always in the 'dim-dip' setting. (My
workshop manuals are all to old to help you with the wiring!)
