Just a quick update... brakes are fixed. Master cylinder changed ok,
but didn't improve things. Took a second look at drums on the rear.
Nearside one looked a bit dodgy- changed the cylinder. No improvement,
but this fixed the structural problem. I then gave up and took it to
the garage who adjusted the drums up (don't ask me why I didn't try
this) and bled it loads. They're now great. (-£45 for the garage)
The original scraping problem still persists though. I've done more
tests- it's independent of clutch (pushing in clutch doesn't make a
difference), but is dependent on whether accelerating or decelerating.
If I take my foot off the gas, it goes away. Also if I brake.
The best way to destcribe the noise is two lovers having sex in an
iron sprung bed. It's dependent on speed of the wheels and sounds
almost springy.
Any ideas anyone? I've jacked up the front right, no play there. Spins
without any noise. My engine mounts need attention I know, but this is
something to do with road speed.
Cheers, Will

Had exactly the same noise turned out it was a slighly loose wheel weight
ticking against the disc caliper... you could only hear it at certain
road speeds. You couldn't hear it by hand spinning the wheel.
Only after a few miles of hard driving and at around 20 mph it
would start.

Have you got disc brakes up front? If so it's probably the stone guards
rattling away. Some people remove them, or replace them if their worn.
Hope this helps,

You might check your CV or U-joint. My CV pot (inner) joint is going out,
and it makes noise when I take a slow, tight turn.
