HELLO! - And - Can anyone help me get hold of a bit?

Hello!

First of all I'm new to this group so hello everyone.

Seconly, I need help...

My windscreen wipers stopped working the other day. An investigation
revealed a completely burnt out switch. Both the switch unit and the
plug that connects the wiring to it are, well, kaput!

I've borrowed the whole windscreen wiper unit, motor and all from my
girlfriend's Dad's mini, but I still need to get hold of a replacement
switch, so he can have it back.
He phoned his usual mini supplier and they said the switch wouldn't be
too expensive, but the plug comes with lots of wiring which is
expensive! This seems silly - surely just a plug with some short
lengths of wiring attached could be crimped or soldered to the wiring
still in the car?

Does anyone out there have a spare switch, plug or both, that they'd
be willing to sell me? Perhaps from a scrap mini? Or perhaps someone
knows where I can get one?
'Girlfriend's Dad' told me to say it's for a 'round bodied' windscreen
wiper motor - if that's important information.

If you think you can help but aren't sure which bit I mean I've put
some pictures online at the following address:

If you think you can help please reply to this, or email me and
hopefully we can arrange some kind of a deal.

Thanks for your help.

Thank for the help everyone.

Sounds like a scrappy's the answer. Just need to find one near me that
has mini bits.

I'm in east Cornwall, right on the border. Regularly get to Plymouth,
Tavistock etc.

If I can't find one locally, can anyone recommend a scrappy that might
mail me the bits?

Ta,

David.

Does it work the other way round?

Put mini in (large) toolbox, tell man at scrap yard that motor unit
wasn't quite what you were looking for and go home.

Could be onto something here...

This looks like the park switch off the actual wiper motor assembly.

The connector shell on the vehicle loom which fits to the switch
assembly is burnt and needs replacing. Since you've cut it off the loom,
you'll have to repair the loom end. This isn't a part that Rover would
normally sell seperately, but you can certainly get the last 3 inches of
loom with the connector shell, and the park switch from a wrecker
(breaker? what do you call them there?).

If you don't have experience doing good quality electrical work, I would
take the car and the new bit of loom to an autoelectrician and get him
to splice it on for you. It shouldn;t cost much and will be far
preferable to having a bodgy repair give up on a cold dark wet english
winter night.

We have both the park switch and the plug available. Where are you in the
world?
