Hi there, is there anyone one out there that has just put a stage one
kit on a mini cooper (1990 RSP is the model I got) and has still got
the old parts that they could let me buy?
Or if anyone could advise on how I could get hold of such parts
elsehow then that much be much appreciated.
Thanks
Phillip

The problem part is the twin downpipe. I understand this type, with two
clamps holding it to the cast iron manifold, is no longer available. So
second hand might be your only choice for this section.

Where in the world are you, mate? I have a 1990 cooper which I believe
is an RSP, which doesn't have a stage 1, but I am considering fitting
it. I am not sure about the logistics of this, but I wouldn't mind doing
a swap of some kind.

send me an email: my first name dot my second name at my last name dot org

Cheers,

Haje Jan Kamps

www.rsp-cooper-register.co.uk is currently having some tech probs.
http://pub120.ezboard.com/fspecialistminiforumsfrm7 is the place to find any
hard to source RSP parts.
If you have any difficulty I have the complete original exhaust system, but
I live in the Highlands. :-) Although I would expect the manifold and
downpipes to look very similar to Metro.

Not wanting to be rude, but why are you de-stage 1ing it anyway?

Very valid question - the car is actually for my sister who is very
stingy, and isn't prepared to pay the extra insurance for a modified
car.  The insurers were generally asking about £150 extra a year to
insure it with the stage one kit fitted.  Although saying that, I may
have wasted all your time (I hope so from my point of view) because
yesterday my sister tried one more insurance company who quoted her
£320 per year with the stage one kit (that's £10 more than the best we
found without mods), so I might be able to persuade her to buy the car
and keep it as it is.
Thanks for all your replies though,
Phillip

and also - the money you would spend on buying all the manifolds/ filters/
backbox even (if you're going back to absolute standatd) - that money could
pay for the extra modified insurance.  but - like many other people - does
the insurance company HAVE to know - if its only a fancy air filter and
exhast i say its not modified - the co-op insurance is v. good for young
ppl - they only ask if the ENGINE has been modded - which you could
truthfully say no to - anyway - just my thoughts

happy mini-ing!

I can see your point, Ryan. But insurance companies will be insurance
companies and they will squirm out of a payout with the slightest excuse. It
is highly unlikely that a stage one kit (especially one with an element
filter, not the cone one) will be spotted by inspectors, but is it worth the
risk?

I think you would find your argument about the term 'engine' would fall on
deaf ears.

Hopefully, you would never need to test it, but the day you do, you may
regret being economical with the facts.

Ongoing, each year?

No, they don't have to know.

They could lever you wrecked mini out of the back of the BMW, prise the
bonnet open and find the squashed remains of your extractors and then
smile to themselves and hang you out to dry.

If you don;t make a claim, then any money spent on insurance is lost
money anyway, so why spend it? And if you lie to them so that they can
deny your claim, then thats wasted money too.

In that case, tell them about your non-engine extractors and air filter.

If they agree with you, then no harm done.

If they don't agree with you, better to know now than when you come to
make a claim.

if anything, take this with you:

I live in liverpool, and have the same car as you - but non-stage1. I
pay 750 quid a year.

And yes, you read that correctly.

Take the 320 and run, man.
