Anyone know what the switches did on a Mk1 mini. they only had one stalk
and two switches on the middle panel? What did what?
They didn't have hazards did they? How did the washers work?
I am trying to work out a sensible arrangement for the pickup. I think
probably a mk1 switch panel but a mk2 stalk. What are the benefits of
either?

Hi,
One switch was for the lights and the other for the wipers. There was also
another hidden switch under the right hand side of the speedo pod, this was
for the instrument lights.
If you want to use a MK2 stalk, you may have to do some wiring changes. The
MK1 dipswitch was on the floor, so you will have to re-route some wiring and
perhaps make some extensions. If you were to go for the MK3 switches, there
will be a lot of extra wiring to bring the wiper wiring to the steering
column for the right hand stalk, and perhaps also fit and wire a 2-speed
wiper motor. If you feel up to all this extra wiring, then I would say go
for it.

Ignition in the middle, Lights to the right, 2 postions 1 ofr park and onw
for head lights. Dip swith on the floor. Other swith is for the wipers, only
1 speed. Stalk operates indicators only. Washer bottle was a manual pump
affair, with a press button usualy ounted just to the left of the steering
colum mounted just below the dash rail.
Panel/ Dash lights operates from the small toggel switch located on the
underside of the speedo binacle. And that ispretty much MK1 electrics,
unless you have a leter model with Oil Pressure and Temp gauge, these wire
into the main loom and have a regulator switch/system fitted to control the
"ripple".
Horn is in the centre of the steering wheel.
To fit MK2 is possible, and easy if you only intend to use the indicators
only, but you will need to rig up a flashing light, eithe rby adapting the
two orange lights on either side of the speedo face, or with an auxilary
light neatly mounted somewhere. You could wire the stalk up to utilise a
electric pump for your window washers on the stalk end push button, but this
would take a bit more figuring out.
