Hi there,

Im a new member with a few questions about doing up my mini.
I am in the middle of converting my mini into a flip front  with the view of
putting a bigger engine in. The trouble is that i am unshure of which
engines would fit under the bonnet. Im looking for something very quick and
powerfull and was hoping to go further that the honder v-tech engine (maybee
an RS Turbo or something similar). Can anyone tell me if im clutching at
straws or whether this realy can be done. If so then I would be greatfull
for some info and tips on how to do this.

with thanks

Nathan.

I have a website containing mini-links: www.minirepository.com. If you
look in the links section there, and browse to "v-tech" or engine
modifications, you should find a bunch of projects, and a few links to
pages containing engine suggestions etc.

Sincerely,

HJ Kamps

Fortunately you've remembered the engineer's mantra:

"Design FIRST, then build!"

The Honda or Vauxhall conversions have the advantage that someone else
has already done all the hard work to design the conversion, and the
knowledge and parts are out there to get more out of these motors.

As the conversaions already available show, it is certainly possible to
fit an alternative motor and box to a Mini, and it is certainly a major
job. Without knowing your skill level and access to specialist people
and equipment, it's hard to advise, but I would suggest you have a
really hard think about whether whatever motor you have in mind offers
sufficient extra over the commercially available conversions to really
be worth the risk of an incomplete project or the hassle and expense of
developing your own conversion.

Remember that the conversions already available have been developed by
professionals who have been able to spread the development costs over
lots of cars. With less skills and less money, can you really do the
project justics?

Hi, I have actually seen a Rover V8 in a Mini pick-up, but I must confess it
was for racing in the Hot Rod class.
Went like SH** off a shovel!!, but a bit hairy on the bends.

hiya
You can put just about any engine in any car, but if you have to ask for
advice I doubt you would have the skills to do so.
