I was driving home from work today when my mini developed a creaking noise in
the foot well area when i am driving away at junctions and when i leave the
pedal go a pressing the break pedal, and a rumbling noise from the front area
over bumps. I called at my local garage he checked my wheels by giving them a
good shake + the engine he said it could be the drive shaft but could not fit
my car in for a full service till the 26 has anybody else had a problem like
this? I do a bit of motorway driving to work and am worried about safety. any
help on the matter appreciated

Hi,
It does soung a little bit like the floor is cracked around the subframe
mount. Lift the carpets and look at the floor where it slopes upwards, there
are two bolt heads about 4 - 5 inches apart, this is where the subframe is
fixed to the floor. Look carefully to see if there is any sign of cracking
in the metal floor around these bolts.
I may be wrong, but I have seen this problem a few times.

If the car was built after 1976 (UK) it has rubber mounts on the front
subframe. These fail with monotonous regularity. Check these first. There
are 2 at the lower font panel (90% chance they are sheared!) and 2 at the
floor. Sounds like these might be the problem.
