A friend has in his garage a 1979 1275GT.

From what I have gathered it went into a garage in 1989, moved to it's
current garage around 10 years ago on tow and there it's sat under a
tarp.

The little info he's given me:

1979 T reg?
Black in colour.
Original V5
Alloys
Currently has 998cc engine fitted?
1275 original engine needs rebuilding but is there.
Some twin 1 1/4" webbers
Cobra bucket seats, need refurbing
Spare boot
Spare door (in gold)
Something about a Cooper head somewhere
Original dash but fitted with extra panel and gauges.
Spare door because original is dented.
Needs the A frame/door pillar replacing, may already have been
removed.

That's about all I could get off him.

He wants the garage for his new people carrier and I've finally got
him to realise with kids etc. he's never going to restore it etc.
10 years of nagging. ;-)

Thing is I've other stuff to restore none mini related so he's looking
to sell it.

I will be able to get pics but not for a while.

Can anyone give me an idea of what it's worth to tempt him with?

I've seen some examples previously on Ebay and have seen running
examples but no real guide as to what its worth, when a badge off the
back fetches £15.00 I've all on persuading him not to take it to bits
to sell the bits.

Any suggestions/advice welcome.

Frankly, I'd have thought more like 150. Realistically, he might even
end up having to pay someone to take it away.

I know bugger all about them but when a badge off the back will fetch
£15.00 I suspect it's worth more than £150.00 even as parts?

There's plenty of people who'll fetch any car for free despite what
the press and council will have you believe...

Fine, if he's prepared to take the time and trouble to break it and
sell all the valuable bits separately over time. I thought he was
trying to get rid of it <grin>. Not sure quite how many valuable bits
there are, though. You may well get silly prices for unique bits like
badges, but most of the car is from the same parts bin as every other
Leyland Mini.,

1275GTs are collectable and do have a certain cult status....as long
as they are original and have all the right bits of trim. Previous
mods actually detract from the car as a restoration project. As I say,
its GBP150 for spares or repair....same as any other rusted out,
non-original Mini of no special interest.

1275GTs are become fairly rare so you may have to pay a bit of a premium
over a standard mini of the same age.

Don't underestimate the cost of doing it up. Almost everything will be more
expensive ?90 for a bumper, wings 4 times the normal prices etc.

My wife's 1980 GT recently had a professional body rebuild and respray which
costs ?2.5k. There's no way we could sell it for that much.

Hi,
I am not sure if there was a change in the specs of the 1275 GT, but early
ones had the Cooper S disk brake system, and they are worth a packet.
