Hello there,
I'm trying to install a radio on my mini. My stereo (Sony MDX-CA580) has
a continuous power supply (yellow) and a switched power supply (red). I'm
having a bit of trouble trying to find which cable to connect to which
terminal of this head unit.
I want it so that there's still power going to the unit so all the data
stored (IE : radio stations) won't be deleted when the power is off and the
head unit will only turn on once the car is running.
Reading the haynes Manual 1969-1988 & autobook's guide to installing a
radio. I'm only able to find the live feed wire (green white stripe wire) or
terminal 6 from the fuse box. I'm guessing that this is where I should
obtain the power supply for the continuous power supply for my head unit and
connect at 1.5A/2A fuse before the head unit.
I'm thinking ob grabbing the signal for the switched power supply (red) for
the head unit from the heater's on/off switch. Because the heater unit does
not run unless the car starts.
Please advice or correct any methods that I'm planning to install with.
Thanks
Yako^^

I don't know what the early haines manual wiring diagrams were like
but the ones from the latest copy are quite clear. The motor on the
heater in my car runs so roughly that I would expect to get electical
noise running a stereo from this! yours may well be OK. Could you not
pick up the wire from the switched outlet on the ignition switch?

Yako,
There is a section in the haynes manual (somewhere under electrical)
which tells you which fuses on the fuse box connect to what.
Can't remember it off the top of my head, but the easiest way to
figure out which one you need would be to turn on the ignition, then
the heater. Open up the bonnet and you should still be able to hear
the heater running (noisey buggers), then pull out each fuse in turn
till the heater goes off!
Got an idea that it might be terminal two (the right-hand side of the
top fuse), but check it anyway.
