Should a mk1 bonnet catch have a spring in it?

Cheers

The centre pin always has a spring. The secondary catch should have a
torsion spring to bias the catch forwards.

Does it fix to the slam pannel?

No Muffy
it screws in to a captive nut welded to the underside of the bonnet

I meant the catch itself - the bit attached to the car itself.  The bonnet
has the sping loaded dildo, I am on about the other bit.  The catch it slots
into (the one I have) doesn't have a spring to return the latch to lock the
bonnet.

Should it have a spring attached to it?  Should that spring be bolted to the
slam pannel?

Cheers

Sorry Muffy,
I misunderstood your post,
YES there is a spring on the locking slide plate

Thanks a lot, and thanks for the email.  Very helpful.  Looks like I need to
find a spring.  At least fitting this wont require the strength of ten men
in my little finger like fitting one of the later bonnet catches ;)

If you can't get the original, what about a rear brakeshoe spring ?
I'm sure you could make one fit,    :-)
