I am curious what sort of miles per gallon(funny american ones) I should get
in city, stop and go driving.  I have a standard 998 1974 motor with an
unleaded head.

Thanks

Mpg?Millions ;)  So many that you will hardly notice paying for it with US prices for fuel.

Mpg?Sorry... that was for an 850. My 1275 (HIF44) is around 26-28 in city.

Mpg?I have a 1977 Mini 1275cc with SU HS2 carb, and get 26 MPG average, city
& highway.

I mostly drive mine commuting at 55 and 65MPH, so I haven't tried measuring
the city mileage - but hopefully this will help.  Do you get better mileage
with the smaller engine?

I told everyone before there the real gallons - its the poms who altered
it to imperial gallons.

Wish I still had my old Mk1 850.
I averaged 49.6 MPG (imperial) over the 1.5 years I owned the "beast".
That's 39.5 +/- American.
Just under 275 miles to a tank. For a while it was using about a
gallon of oil in the same distance (with 196,000 miles on the original
engine). Reringed it - standard size rings - replaced bearings (again
standard) and drove it to 214,000 before I sold it, back in 1971.
It had been overheated and the rings were as hard and brittle as glass
when I removed them.
