I have never had the problem, although I have replaced dozens of oil seals
in the past,
I find that the right amount of pressure applied equally to either side of
the pot joint always works for me,
too much pressure on one side tends to jam it,

This is exactly how I removed mine a couple days ago. I put a long crowbar
in from the top, removing the hood so I had enough room to whack it hard
with a rubber mallet.
Then I got underneath and, from the other side used a pry bar, knocking it
with the mallet - and lo, the gap opened up and off came the pot joint.
Found the little metal ring that's supposed to go onto the pot joint's shaft
is No Longer Available (at least here in the USA from Mini Mania), but they
said it should be OK without it as long as I replace the rubber seal.
Haven't done that yet, but hopefully that will stop the leak there.
