Hi again,
Been fitting a stereo upgrade into my girlfriends mini 1000. Due to road
noise on fast roads she wanted a little more power in her rear speakers. So
I have set about installing a 200w amp just to these speakers. All works
very well until the engine has been started when I am faced with whining and
tapping/clicking. I understand this to be engine interference and checked
for the suppressor on the coil. Doesn't exist! So I set about removing the
one from my Mini30 and trying that, but this made little if no difference.
Can you guys suggest anything set procedures or rule of thumb that you may
have used in the past.
Thanks in advance.
Dick Jones.

1) Separate the signal cable and the power cables
2) Make sure the power cable is no longer than necessary (in my mini, it
is 15 cm long, in the boot)
3) Make sure your grounding wire is good enough and properly connected
4) test your signal cable by connecting a Discman directly to the
amplifier - if the problem persists, chances are it is the power. If the
problem disappears, it is the signal cable
If everything else fails, and it is the power supply that is the problem
put a small capacitor between the battery and the amplifier - to even
out the power supply.

The whining is something like the generator / alternator which is linear
and the clicking maybe a condenser in the distributor or plug leads.
either take a suppresser or a new set of plug leads.

You could try shifting the ground to different locations plus connecting the
power straight to the battery. I have an amp wired into my car and get not
a bit of noise.

I totally agree with Minichicago ,
some years ago I had a Vauxhall with a similar fault, it even made a
screaming noise through the radio when the wipers where on,
turned out to be the wiper motor earth was attached to the bulkhead
The radio earth was also attached to the same bulkhead,
we moved the earth to another location and cured the fault,
