bottom ball joints !*$*$!

hi group,is it possible to reshim or change the bottom ball joint  in situ
,still on the car .
I really don't want to take the hub off if at all possible.

The only problem is holding the hub while undoing the 1.5" ball joint nut.
They can be tight.

It is usually easy to take the hub off anyway. With the brakes on, undo the
centre hub nut (very tight!) and tap the driveshaft inwards to free the
taper washer. Remove the 2 caliper mounting bolts and support the caliper
out of the way (don't let it hang on the hose). Then split the 2 ball joints
from the arms and the track rod end from the steering arm. Hold the
driveshaft inwards as the hub falls off!

It is so much easier to do the ball joints with the hub held in a bench
vice.

cheers Steve,I have done them before and I just wondered if there was any
short cuts!
