I'm in the process of stipping my rear subframe. The problem is that I
cannot remove the rubber cones from the end of the trumpets. I've
tried pulling, pushing, forcing a screwdriver down the side etc but
with no success. As with all these things I'm sure there must be a
knack, but I obviously don't have it! I've even tried wd40 down the
gap. Any one got any advice?
thanks

Are you keeping the cones or replacing them?
If you are replacing the cone have you tried holding the trumpet and
whacking the cone against something? Brute force and ignorance is always
fun as a last resort....
You may even be able to keep the cone, but it depends on if you damage it ;)

This is often a major pain (the other pain is getting the steel knuckle
end out of the aluminium trumpet, especially if water has been trapped
at the bottom of the trumpet).
I tend to squirt WD40 around the joint (to make the rubber slippery),
and then use a damn great cold chisel and a 4lb lump hammer to split the
two by tapping all around the seam. With the right taper on the chisel
it usually works.
I always put a smear of grease on the top of the trumpet when
re-assembling. It does help to prevent it sticking.

As Chris says, it's a matter of brute force and ignorance really. If it
seriously WILL NOT come apart it's usually easy to get hold of a replacement
one from someone who has converted to HiLos and no longer needs the standard
trumpet. Then you can butcher your existing one off with a hacksaw or angle
grinder!!!
