I know from my work that we can get a crate (similar size and weight to a mini) to Hong Kong from Scotland, cheaper than going to Europe, both by sea/road. The only other way is to find out if there is anybody with a partially full container shipping to the US, and "sharing" the cost. I imported a Mini a year ago to Tacoma, Washington from Denmark, shipped from Bremerhaven (Germany) via a roll-on, roll-off ship (shipper was Wallenius Wilhemsen) for $1028.50. To east coast it may be less, who knows...but hopefully this helps a little at least. Was that delivered by sea to the west coast, (presumably Seattle or Portland?) or to the east coast and then trucked/trained across? Did you pick it up from a freight depot or was it to your door? I was thinking of shipping my motorcycle from Australia to Vancouver (and home again later) for an extended holiday a few years ago. As it happened I hired a car for just one week which cost not much less in the end. So I would think that anyone selling Minis in the USA would have to pay the shipping at some point, passing off the expense to the ultimate buyer. Motorbike hire in Vancouver was more expensive than car hire, and they were only 250cc bikes!
