Imported minis are pretty rare in Australia! I take it that it has South
African ID tags or something?

Is it a cartridge oil filter or a steel bowl with a filter inside it?

This suggests a 1275 motor.

Is the engine number located in the usual place? If not, what is there?
Any chance of a photograph? Where are you in Melbourne?

I'm deeply sceptical about stories of dim distant past glory, famous
owners, etc.

You could ring Link and see if they remember the car. South African
imports are rare enough that anyone who has worked on the car will
remember it.

My Austin Montego (the only one in NSW) has the oil filter on the block and
not hanging off the front on an adaptor. It is a spin on filter and not a
cartridge. I thing the South African minis and the Spanish 1100s and minis
had them that way.

yes the original owner shipped it over here from south africa with all their
furniture when moving over here, it is the same
as an english mk3 with internal hinges no quarter vent windows that
different grill on the front that the aussies
never got and i think the biggest give away is the leyland south africa
badge on one side and the leyland suid afrika
badge on the other side.

the spin on type like on most late model cars, so the steel bowl with the
filter inside it

Email directly to me. Remember to put the .com into the address.
Although it's possible to attach files to usenet postings, it is very
bad etiquette, since it means that your file is stored in hundreds of
different news servers around the world.

No idea in that case.

Like I said, for the cost of a phone call, I'm sure Link can tell you if
they've seen the car before or if they ever had someone called Scott there.

Deleted straight off the mail server without downloading.
This time, email me something smaller than 3.3Mb.
