Is this the group for the  newer Mini Cooper 'S' discussions?
I have a 2003 I purchased about 13 months ago (4600 miles now) and will be
getting my first oil and servicing next week.  The Mini agancy gave me a
verbal list of what a 'service' consists of, but does anyone have any
suggestions about particular items that should also be checked or that might
cause a problem?
I find the car to be a real 'kick-but' car and enjoy it.  Have only seen 5
others in this 13 month period, so it has not gotten to be 'old hat' like
the PT Cruiser did.
Any other owners live in the Tampa Florida area?

I hope you mean first scheduled service and not first EVER oil change!

A brand new engine wants an oil change pretty early in it's life,
because it generates a remarkable amount of metallic contamination in
the oil as it wears in.

hi
Yes i can tell you that the oil and filter cost about 199 pounds and to
check the tyre pressures is about 199 pounds also add this to the air filter
365 pounds and a wash and hoover before they bill you is 255 pounds.,
That comes to a little over 800 pounds for a minor service please be
reminded that the major service may require you to sell something of minor
value.. like your BRAIN ...what ever possesed you to buy a BMW u idiot ..now
piss off to the right group,,,,,

Sad, wanted a Mini, but ended up with a BMW hatchback.

Only 5? I think I saw 5 *this morning* on the way to work,
they're everywhere... Not as common as my Clio...

Please don't use the word "gotten" again, it's ugly. stick to
"got" and save 3 letters!

I think he's one of those Johnny Foreigners from the good ole USA,
they think the Queens English is the back chat that you get from
somebody who bats for the other side.

Nice to have a banter about minis v's bini's though....can't wait for
the next full flared argument about why the new one's rubbish compared
with the superior original, personally I've got one of each so go
ahead and flame me!!! I can take it ;-)

instead? if it's not one thing, its another!

I'm currently mini-less, but hoping to change that for the summer...

There's a 1972 pale green Mini 1000 advertised in my local, (Tunbridge
Wells, Kent)  with MOT and tax free...... for £650. Probably been
snapped up by now, but you never know...... I can look out the tel
number if you want to give it a try.

Very kind of you, I've always wanted a green car. However the
summer should bring a change of venue (whispers .au) so might
excede my luggage allowance a tad!

Cheers,

I spent 5 weeks in Oz (Sydney area Northern Beaches) last Christmas. I
saw no more than 4 classic Mini's and a couple of Moke's. All of them
were really cherished.

Good luck

A guy I know here in the good ol' USA has gotten one of each also.  I
personally don't mind the new ones, though I have never driven one yet.  I
wave at the new ones when I'm driving my "old" and they wave back.  They
look huge next to my '77 Special!

Is that the best you can do Fraggy?

BTW: what other piece of sh*t did you end up with?

Alan
fragged - 10 Apr 2004 18:22 GMT
hey
my other piece of sh.t i bought in the end is 180bhp so will blow away most
Bini's. And anyway , anybody who would buy a car without a spare wheel and
have to pay EXTRA FOR A SPARE WHEEL because its optional must be stupid..

A fool and their money are soon parted...unfortunately we all end up
suffereing

How to you spell sh*t is it SEAT?

Nice car to drive the Leon.... just not to my taste.

I take it by most Bini's you mean Mini 1's & Cooper?
Seat Leon 2.0vt (180bhp) 0-60 8.0 secs 132mph
Mini Cooper S 0-60 7.6 secs 133mph
(Source Autocar)

BTW: don't they have one of those crappy space saver spare wheels on
those things? At least mine will run flat up to 50mph.... still I
suppose that's the only way you'll get people to notice most dull old
Euro boxes!!

Sorry for the late response, I've been away this weekend.

hi
dunno why autocar quote Seat Leon 2.0vt (180bhp) 0-60 8.0 secs 132mph..
Seat quote 142mph ??

Hi Fraggy,

Autocar do real world tests, sometimes it can be quite surprising the
differences between the manufacturers claims and what is acheived by
an experienced test driver under controlled conditions.

The top speed is acheived on the Millbrook bowl (banked oval circuit)
so there is a bit of centrifugal force to overcome. The top speed is
likely to be 5 -10 mph faster if you had a straight flat long enough
piece of road to test on.

The 0-60 mph time is a different kettle of fish and is done on the
flat long straight.

To be really anal about all this you need to take into account the
outside air temperature, barometric pressure and humidity. Also
sometimes Autocar have to test in the wet which would greatly affect
the 0-60 time, but I have checked and both cars were tested in the dry
under similar conditions.

Conclusion.... Leons are fine fast wee beasties, but so are Cooper
'S's'.... enjoy your car,

btw in reply to Graham W..
Its not true that a Modern engine will need frequent and early oil changes.
My new car will not need the engine oil changing until the first service at
10,000 miles.

Its not an Audi but it has the 180bhp TT engine 17" wheels 4 doors, racing
suspension, multichange cd player, electric everything all as standard and
it costs the same as a BINI cooper.

And to think i looked at the Bini ..Ha .. not on your life...not a patch on
mine...

yes i agree with an old design engine like the mini, I will change the oil
in mine after about 10 miles from the rebuild then again at about 1000miles
