I just bought my fourth Mini (and they all fit in the garage!) - it's a
nice 1970 Clubman, mint bodywork but someone has fitted a MG Metro Turbo
engine in it :eek!:  How could I let it go to those evil people at
*cough ... mob... cough*  so I had to buy it.

I know very little about turbos and stuff and most books are rather lean
on the conversions needed to fit it into a Mini - like how does it run
with no ECU? Or, will the Metro gauges be good in the Mini?

Anyone with experience or that can point to good resources gets a
virtual pint :)

My understanding from what I've read here and on the web is that the ECU
in the Metro turbo just limits boost to less than the wastegate setting
at lower revs to help the poor gearbox last longer.

Without it, the wastegate alone limits the boost and at intermediate
engine speeds, say 3000RPM, you get full boost and enough torque to
finish off a gearbox in a few thousand miles.
