I have owned a lot of cars for a lot of years and I never needed to replace
a horn on any of them. But now I need a horn for my 92 mini. Mine only
chirps and squeeks. Anyone out there have a spare? It is a simple one +
terminal.
As always your help is much appreciated,
Craig

My experience with old horns on my bikes and cars always ends with a simple
cure. Either hit it with a rubber mallet or drop it on the ground a few
times. They rust and need to be freed up in order to vibrate.

The older type horn (two pin) have an adjuster screw so you can get the note
you like but they still need a hit with a hammer first to put them back in
their place. A bit of WD40 will improve them as well.
You can pull them apart and fix them if you need to.

Where are you Craig?
I've got a spare if you want it.
But, just a thought, it might be a bit heavy to post for less than one from
a scrappy.
Let me know

I had a problem with my car horn as well. At first I believed it was a
problem with the horn push, but later realised it was a electrical
problem. NOTE: mine is a mk1 mini, so there might be differences in
the electrical layout.
Got someone to put in a electrical relay - fixed the problem good. Now
the horn is even louder than it ever was.

thanks everyone. I did find a generic horn at the car parts store for $14. I
will try to tear this one open and fix it. If unsucessful, get the new one.
I did already try the hammer and garage floor banging approach. Also power
direct from good battery.

Give it a drink from the magic can of WD40 and a few more hits before you
pull it apart.
