1984 Mini Auto with a broken crank. Shell stripped, good condition, about to
have a Fibreglass front fitted. I propose to keep the998cc,for cheaper
tax, insurance, and no added expense converting to discs.I am getting
conflicting info as to modifying the subframe to manual, some say
possible,others its not.How much would a complete engine/gearbox/subframe
assy cost ? I toyed with fitting the autos 1 1/2 " SU,an L C B and RB340
box.Any one in the West Midland area any of these parts to sell ? Any advise
welcome.

How on earth did you (or someone else) manage that? Minimatic cranks are
almost indestructible, not because they're strong but because the engine
oil pump also drives the auto, so if the oil pressure is less than
excellent then the car stops moving.

The auto and manual subframes are really very different. They both fit
into exactly the same place in the body, so they're interchangeable. The
width across the engine mounts is the major difference for your
purposes; the extra clearance everywhere else doesn't affect you.
Fitting a manual motor to an auto subframe is not a trivial job and to
do it properly you're really best off replacing the subframe.

Anything I know about Australian prices isn't going to be relevant to you.
