I need to clean the throttle body on my mirage. After removal do I clean
with carb cleaner? Any advise on this?

thx

Yes.
Remove the ISC and BISS screw, they both get pretty filthy. Think about
SeaFoam or Mitsu Combustion Chamber Cleaner (dealer item) to clean the top
end too.

simpleton, another question. Although the idle does not surge any more it is
still high and will not come down. I tried adjusting the screw that has the
lock nut on it and it wont go down. Does this indicate a bad sensor of some
sort?

thx, Larry

The lock nut screw? That is the throttle stop plate. You do not move or ever
touch that. The idle is controled by the idle speed controler and the base
idle set screw (BISS). The BISS is on the throttle body under a black cap.
It can be adjusted by trial and error or properly with a logger and clip.
Look around on 1G/2G DSM/Eclipse pages for help. You car, while gutless and
FWD, is similar.

Like Todd said, leave the screw alone. The B.I.S.S. (base idle speed screw)
may have an air leak or air make be entering in a million other places. This
is almost certainly an air leak.

"You car, while gutless and FWD, is similar."

Todd, nobody ever tells you that your car is overweight and slow :)

Todd, thx are there any loggers for a ODBI? I have an ODBII logger, connects
to a Clie. Yes, she is gutless, but this is my work car so I dont mind. My
other car is an 03 EVO Blue, which I only drive when this guy is not
running... Take care all, I appreciate your help.

Yes, pocketlogger.com has a DSM logger for the 1G Mitsu (cheap too). BTW,
it's really DRBII, not OBDI. I can't swear it will work with your car, but
it does for the 1G DSM and 3000GT/Stealth. I assume it will with yours. You
don't really need it to do base timing and the idle. You just ground pin one
from the in-car connector with an aligator clip and the base idle clip
behind the battery. The base idle/timing clip is a round, brown connector at
the firewall. I usually has a rubber cap on it, but they do fall off. This
is also on DSM web pages...start a www.vfaq.com. You will find a lot of tips
for any Mitsu there.

Todd, when I look at the throttle body and toward the front of the car is a
black assembly that has some wires connected to it. Is that the adjustment?
It has two screws one on each side. It looks like they have some type of
glue on them to hold them in place. Is this another idle adjustment?

thx again. Larry

That is the throttle position sensor, don't mess with it.
