HELP !! (54,000 miles) This just started happening about a week ago(now 2).
Carpet
behind the drivers seat is SOAKED. The sunroof isn't leaking (headliner
spotless), the 2 drains in the hatchback (L&R) rain channels are clear and
functional, window/door seals are tight with no leaks, windows close fully.
Car is garage kept. The floor is wet even after a week of dry weather. I'm
at a loss as to origin of this puddle. No other floorboards/carpets are wet
anywhere or even damp so no trail to follow. No smell or residue when I
touch it. Feels/smells like straight water. All carpets are bone dry except
the left rear. How da' hell is the water getting to the drivers side
backseat with no obvious source or trail to backtrack. Anyone else ever run
into this problem?? I'd REALLY hate to have to take it to the dealer to
locate the source but as a last resort....VERY last resort, I will. As
painful as it will be. Any ideas will be appreciated

Perhaps it's a case of sabotage? Someone is pouring the water in there?

I doubt my wife would be sabotaging her own car. Unless she's into that wet
carpet schtank. Never know, though.

There is a hose that drains water from around the sunroof. Mine got clogged
about a year ago and I ended up with the entire (front and back) driver's side
carpet soaked. I believe that hose ran down the A-pillar in front. Maybe
there is another hose that runs down the B-pillar.

The sunroof is well sealed with silicone due to the cost to fix/replace it.
Motor shot. I really don't think it's leaking from the sunroof but will
check the B-pillar to see what happening in there, if anything. Worth a try.
Thanks!!

The sunroof is broken and has been for almost a year. It's now sealed with
silicone sealant, two layers now, until I can afford to get the entire s/r
replaced. I was hoping it WAS a sunroof leak. No such luck, of course.
Thanks for the reply!

My wife's '01 had the exact same problem...no obvious leaks, nothing wet
that I could find, but the back seat floor was swimming ! We were lucky
in that this happened at ~20K, so it was still under warranty.
The dealer ended up replacing the "sun roof housing", headliner, floor
carpet and mats, and the front "body harness". He told me the water
does drain down the side pillars normally, and that they had also found
a leak where the body harness went through the firewall.
Good luck solving your problem !

Any other ideas out there? The sunroof is sealed w/2 layers of silicone
until I can afford to replace the entire unit so it's not coming from the
sunroof, unfortunately. Only the floorboard carpet is wet ( now back drivers
side AND front drivers-almost like it's rising!) not the sides running up to
the console, door sills or behind the clutch/brake/gas pedals. It's almost
as if it's coming up from BELOW the car but all drains are sealed and
covered with undercoating, or some rubberized stuff that looks like
undercoating. I may have to pop on to let it drain though. Where is the A/C
drain on a 2000 Eclipse GT and can THAT somehow get water to the floorboard
without getting any of the side carpeting wet? That seems to be my last
source to check. Any help/suggestions are appreciated. I think I may have
missed a reply or two 2 weeks ago due to having to leave town for a family
emergency with no Net access (shiver) and apologize to those who's replies I
may have missed (no longer on server). Thanks for the help folks!

If you get real desperate, try removing all (front, back, everything) carpet
and felt underlay so you have just the metal floor (and sound deadening).
You probably need to do this to dry the carpet out properly anyway else it
could smell very bad. Dry the floor out totally and when water appears
again, narrow it down to one footwell and stick on a continuous ring of
paper towel with blue-tac or something. Where the paper gets wet is where
the water is getting in. Its going to look very weird to your passengers
and a bit noisier for a while but it should work!!
