Hi, I'm looking at purchasing a Lancer 2001 - 2004 and am not familar with
gearboxes.

does anyone know how good the tiptronic gearboxes are in the 2001 - 2004
Lancers. How do the compare to the standard Auto transmissions.
I have heard that the tiptronic ones are encountering problems.
Is an auto more expensive to run and also service?
Cheers

The tiptronic and standard auto transmissons are almost the same , they just have different electronics and some minor differences internally.
Mitsubishi make both types as an F4A42 in the model years you are looking at.

The biggest problem on this transmission is shift flare from 2nd - 3rd , so make sure you drive the car before you buy ,as a repair is quite costly ( unless it has manufacturers warranty )

I havent seen a Lancer with Tiptronic so im guessing they would use the F4A42 .

Where are you from and what Lancer are you looking at buying ?
