engine whines

I have a '97 Eclipse GS, 100,000 miles. It has been a good car with no
major problems.Timing belt has been replaced. But now the engine whine
when I accelerate, any ideas?

Are you sure this isn't the transmission thats whining, if you have
automatic. Or low power steering fluid.

It may be the transmission.
Wondering about the water pump...not sure if it was replaced or not.
Know of any site to download repairs? Thanks.
