Can it be true?  I've searched the car, searched the repair manual,
searched the owner's manual...no mention of a fuel filter, other than
the little screen under the pump in the tank.  No externally serviceable
filter anywhere!

Is there really no fuel filter on a 99 Galant?

Actually, if you use Google, it says there is a fuel filter in the gas tank and
the cost is over $50.00 US.

Yes, it is more than just a screen.
Put  1999 Galant Fuel Filter   in the search box of Goggle or other search
engine.

You are right!  It is enclosed in a major piece of plastic, inside the
fuel pump assembly:

The factory one is black and white...the aftermarket one appears to be
all white.

Thanks!
