Galant 2000 heating problem

Hey.
I have a problem with my Galant that I had now for few weeks.
The heating is working just fine for some time after starting the car
but after a while (during longer trips) it starts to blow successively
colder air so I have to turn the temperature knob on higher and higher
temperature until I reach the maximum of 32 degrees Celsius. At this
point it starts to heat at maximum rate which is too hot. So I turn the
knob back to 31,5 degrees then it get too cold (I have mesured the
temperature, and its about the same temp that is outside - so 7-10
degrees). The temperature in car at this point is usually so around 22
degrees but the incoming cold air makes it very unpleasant.
Could it be that the internal temperature sensor wich is installed
beside the temperature regulating knob is fooled by the heat that is
coming from the head unit of my stereo system? After a while the
centner console is beeng heated up by the head unit and the
air-conditioner starts to cool.
Thats the only logical explanation that I came up to. Is it so and what
can I do against it?

Thanx

I think you are on the right track ,The sensor to the automatic climate unit
is located just above the adjustment knob
on the right of the middle console. This is an intergral part of the climate
control unit ,BUT behind the sensor there is a tube which constantly bleeds
the interior air to the heater thus measuring the temperature .If this tube
has been displaced then the air temp will be static .The heat from the
radio/cd player will cause the ecu to think its warm in the coupe ,thus
putting on the air con cooling.
Solution;   Take the radio out and make sure the hose is in place , Its
VERY easy to knock it off when fitting a stereo.

You were right! The tube did droop just around blowing air nowhere.
After some acrobatic exercises I got it on its right place and I hope
that does the job.

Thank you Mate!  I will buy you a drink when you visit Estonia! :D
