Sounds like the power wiring is slightly different. There's main power (from
the on-off switch) but also a battery backup +12v that always on and take a
few mA to keep the radio presets active.

Stewart, if you happen to see this, thanks for the response. I have been
checking back to see if anyone had an answer, and it is only now that I see
your reply, after unsub-ing and resub'ing.
I wasn't the one who plugged the radio in, so I have another question:
could the connection have been put together in the wrong direction, or is it
only a one way type of thing? I'd rather know if it's worth checking out,
before someone tries to rip the dashboard apart again. Seems to me that if
the battery backup (I assume you mean a connection to the car's main
battery) portion of the wiring wasn't a match, that the old pre-set stations
would vanish, too. Ah, well, it's not a major thing really. Thanks again.
