Hi All
Trying to fix a problem with a Cordia Turbo, had the head replaced including
a secondhand manifold (old one cracked) this cost me a small fortune, picked
it up from the repairer and it has a vibration in the engine (not there
previously) and lacks power, took it back and complained said I thought it
was probably the valve timing and or the balanceshaft timing, they have spent
a day on this car (so they say) and the best they have come up with is that
if they take the exhaust off it seems to run OK and the vibration almost
goes away, is there anyway that the balance shaft can be out of alignment
although it looks OK, because the mechanics have checked the timing again
and say it is alright, I ask this because I had a similar problem with a
Porsche 944 and the balance shaft was out 180 degrees.

The Cordia has the 4G62 1.8L engine. So ... there's a vibration around the
2200rpm mark, it lacks power and "the vibration almost
goes away".

You  "had the head replaced...".   They may have the cam timing and balance
shaft right, but they got the oil pump out of phase by about 90 degrees.
Require them to take both belts off again and follow the complete alignment
process as described by Mitsubishi, with no short cuts. Don't take no for an
answer.
