This car does not start anymore.

A mechanic told me that the intake manifold is cracked.  Is this a
common problem in these cars?

Thanks for any and all help.

First I've EVER heard of it. Its the exhaust that usually cracks, at least
in the older Galants. Lets assume the intake is cracked. It would have to be
a pretty big crack that some JB weld or similar would not fill and seal at
least in the short term.

So ... the no start problem is almost certainly something else.

Is the ECU putting out any error codes? Is the ECU getting +12v?

Is there any fuel pressure?

Any spark? Distributors can and do fail.

Is the cam belt timing correct? If the belt broke or slipped, are any valves
bent?

How about a compression test?

You may need to find a better or more motivated mechanic.
