89 Mighty Max - carbon in the exhaust

My '89 Mighty Max 4 cyl 121 cid is blowing carbon from the exhaust pipe -
black fine soot.

Any advice for troubleshooting or repair would be appreciated.

Suggest you visit http://www.mitsubishisucks.com/cars/models/mightymax/
You could try switching to a low carbon exhaust pipe.

Sounds like it's running too rich (too much gas for the amount of air)This
may be caused by a dirty aircleaner (limiting the amount of air and causing
too rich a mixture).

There could be other reasons but start with the aircleaner.
