I have a 94 Galant GS DOHC..Yesterday I opened the back door and now I
can't get it to stay closed..If I shut it..  it doesn't latch.  If I
make a turn it just flies open. I had to have someone hold it closed
while I drove home.  I have it bungied closed right now.  anyone know
how the latching mechanism works??  I tried to get it to latch with no
luck..Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hey there Mr. Bat Grunt. You know I really enjoy Australian red wines. I
sincerely hope Australia's government isn't as screwed up as ours in the
US. There are a number of things about Australia that I admire and
enjoy, just not you. Remember, if you wants friends, you must be friendly!

I really don't care whether you like me or not. It is a matter of civil
duty to provide this service for all Mitsubishi users, regardless of their
race creed or colour.

I am glad you like our wines, buy up on them now because soon you may not
be able to afford them. The wine glut is over and prices are on their way
up. I understand that this year's vintage will be a good one because of
the drought.

I can assure you that our GovCo is just as screwed up. Our Johnny (like
your George) is a pathological liar and a sociopath. He lied the same lies
about why Australia was sending troops to IraqNam. We have experienced a
similar progressive loss of civil liberty through the abuse of process.
Unfortunately, Johnny has a higher IQ (or perhaps less brain damage) than
George and as a result can talk without short term memory latency
problems, so he fools more people.  We have an election coming up at the
end of the year, and all polls taken to date indicate Johnny will get
a brand new arsehole reamed out. Unlike the US, we don't have
a corrupted electoral process so the vote counting mechanism is safe.

I'm sorry to hear that. I was hoping there was SOMEPLACE on earth where
the government wasn't totally screwed up. Makes a monarchy sound good,
doesn't it?

In the US the president is more of an icon, and who could better prove
that than Bill Clinton. All he did was j.rk off and screw interns while
Al Gore was inventing the internet. The real problem is our two party
political system. Our Democrats and Republicans waste our time and our
money bashing each other. When they do manage to get something done,
then they give themselves a raise. And their retirement plan is the best
in the world. They get their full salary for life, and the best part is
it is fully funded by the tax payers -- they never pay a cent into it. I
think we need to eliminate their retirement and put them on Social
Security. Better yet, let's eliminate them and let the people rule! How
many billions of dollars would that save? Enough to fix our Social Security!

The door latch mechanism is a sort of cam-fork system. The metal loop you
see on the door pillar is what the door latches on to and the cam-fork
rotates and latches.

I'd guess that when you opened the door, the cam is jammed in the open
position. With the door open, try rotating the cam-fork with the shaft of a
large srewdriver.  If it does rotate and latch, good. If it just moves in
and out (which I suspect) you'll have to take the door trim off and see
what's jammed or rusted solid.
