Hello,

I have just had the engine reconditioned on my 1991 mitsubishi galant.
When I got the vehicle back I found it would stall when I came to a
stop and it would take its time changing gears.

Now the vehicle refuses to go into reverse. When I start the car and
place the vehicle in drive it will then immediately stall.

I looked at the TCU codes only to receive a series of short pulses
which I read, means the Transmission is supposedly fine. Does anyone
have any ideas.

Thankyou

Who put the engine back in the car after the rebuild?  Take it back to them
and tell them about the issues.  I don't know anything about that
transmission specifically, but it sounds like a missing vacuum line or the
likes.

I think you will find this is normal behaviour for these cars.

The engine doesn't have enough torque to overcome the drag which occurs
when you put it into gear. This can be easily worked around by running
the engine at 2,500 RPM in Park before engaging Drive. You will probably
need to have your foot on the brake when doing this (or use the hand-
brake).

After you have engaged drive sucessfully, you will still need to maintain
the engine RPM with the accelerator pedal, so keep the foot on the brake
until you are ready to move off.

That the transmission is fine is a most unusual situation indeed.
