Need Eclipse GSX Repair Recommendation in Maryland.

My 1991 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX hasn't started in about 5 years. I think its
a minor electrical problem. I have another car and decided to let the GSX
wait before I get it fixed. Now I miss driving it!

When last driven it had about 75,000 miles. The clutch slipped occasionally
(under hard acceleration) and the shifter has always felt kind of loose and
mushy. Now I'd like to get it fixed. But I'm in no hurry, so I want to save
the cost of taking it to the dealer. Does anyone care to recommend some
place to take it in the I270 corridor area of Maryland? (Mostly between
Rockville and Frederick.)

Thanks!

Look in your Yellow Pages for a Mitsubishi (or now, Subaru WRX) performance
shop.

Issues you should consider are
- degraded fuel / gum in the gas tank.
- radiator probably needs replacing: look at the engine side at the bottom
for vane corrosion.
- water pump and timing/balance belts to replace.
- check the turbo impeller shaft for wear
- absolutely take out the ECU and check for leaking capacitors.
- clutch was slipping, is likely now stuck on the pressure plate
- clutch slave may have corroded
- brake flush and probably replace all the rotors.

Thanks for the advice. I suppose a performance shop could offer some
enhancements I might want.

BTW, what did I miss? "...Mitsubishi (or now, Subaru WRX)?" Was there a
merger or something?

No, but performance shops that used to do Eclipse mods often do WRX now.
