We just bought this '94 2.0 eclipse for our son. But it has this problem of
surging @ idle and throttle response is almost immediate to 2000-2500 rpm
and returns back to this surging idle very slowly. I checked and replaced
the TPS, but no change. I originallly mistook an engine code as showing the
air inlet sensor bad, and bought one, but it wasnt the case. I got an
incorrect reading due to unplugging the sensors while engine running and
didnt clear them. I took the throttle body off, cleaned all components,
checked vavuem lines from it and to the egr vale and solenoid, but all
looked good. All the voltages to the TPS, ICS and Air sensors are correct. I
reinstalled everything and checked the engine codes for faults but no codes
showed up except for the Normal code for ecu. Am I missing something ? Any
suggestions would be appreciated.

clean the thottle body. do a google search for mopar combustion chamber
cleaner. get two cans and follow the directions you find online.
works wonders....

Thanks for the response. I'll be getting the mopar product today and try it
out.
I wanted to add, to be more explicit about this idle. It only idles @ 1600
and this surges from 1600 to 1700 every second. I tried disconnecting a plug
at a time to see if any difference, but it does the same thing regardless.
I see that some one previous to me put a new alternator belt on and also the
fuse for it had been blown and they bypassed it. But its charging, although
voltage is alittle high @ 14+.
At first start, rpm goes to almost 3000, then after a few seconds, drops
back to 2000 and then after warming for a few more seconds, to this
1600-1700 surge idle.
Also, now at startup, I'm getting a belt squeal vicinity of alternator, but
havent pinpointed it yet. Smokes for a few seconds and then stops. Have to
look at th e alternator, maybe bearings or overload. But could be something
else in that area.
thanks

I have to add one last thing, I hope. If the closed throttle position is
disconnected, rpm jumps to almost 3000. Any significance?
thanks

I noticed that removing the air tube with engine running, albeit a little
rough, it idled at the normal speed of 700 + - rpm. ECU compensation?
