1. is there any way to avoid paying a dealership $75 to take out the radio
on my 94 diamante to figure out what the code is?  can i take it out myself
and somehow find out the code?

2. my a/c, when the compressor is on, makes lots of squealing noise and
there's what sounds to me like a loose belt sometimes going around
turns...is there a belt for the power steering?  for the a/c?  if so, are
they somehow related?

You can avoid paying the dealership $75 by taking the radio out yourself and
bringing it with the car to the dealership. They should run the serial
number for free.
As far as the squealing noise if the belts are not loose, a bearing may be
going bad and causing the belt to slip.

Dont take it out. Get a flashlight and pop off the cover. The serial number
is on top of the stereo. Get it, go to the part shop and give them the code.
Do not go to the repair guy, go to the parts counter.

Good tip, never thought of just writing it down. Gues I like doing things
the hard way.

what do you mean 'the cover?'  you mean the 'wood' surrounding the radio?
or the front of the radio itself?  or what?  thanks

so are there belts for both?  same belt?  or would it be common for both
belts to be loose at the same time?

or the ac clutch shot, or the compressor shot, or the belt shot,  pop the
hood and check it out
