Haynes has an Alty 98-01 manual? I've got a 93-01 and it's on page
1-25, Section 28, under Tune-up and routine maintenance.

Post back here on how it goes if you do it. I'm planning a pan drop
later this spring and am planning on using brake cleaner solvent for
cleaning it.

If you don't want to drop the pan just use the drain plug which is
what the Haynes book will tell you.
