How do you know if your fuel pump is bad and needs replacing? What are some
things to look for if you do need a new one?
Thanks for your input!

A fuel pump can go bad in two ways, either mechanically or electrically. If
you car will not start, try "priming" the fuel system by turning the key
from OFF to ON, but don't start it. When the key is first put into the ON
position, the Computer will activate the fuel pump for about 4 seconds, so
build up pressure. Do this OFF to ON thing a few times to get the pressure
to build up. If the car will start after doing that a few times, then the
check valve/ball in the fuel pump is failing, and letting pressure in the
fuel lines and rails fall back into the tank. (Those lines run a total of
11 feet, and that can hold a good liter or two of fuel.)

The fuel pump could also fail electrically, either the fuse is burned out
(in the passenger cabin fuse panel), the relay is not switching (should be
green), the wiring to the pump is bad/corroded. Also the pump is an
electric motor and can fail from overheating or excessive work from a
clogged fuel filter, or lack of sufficient fuel in the tank. (The fuel
actually cools the pump off while in the tank) Most imports have durable
long lasting fuel pumps, but they too can go bad. The pump is not too hard
to replace, there is an access to the tank from the back seat.

If you need some more tips post some more.
