Hi there!

I noticed this the other day on my way home from work i'm on the freeway
going about 65 and I would press the gas and it would kind of hickup...so
I got off the freeway and i'm on the offramp waiting for the light to
change and my car is bouncing around all over the place, I had to put it
in neutral to keep it running and when I could I hit the gas but it just
about died, I pulled into a parking lot and circled slowly and it was fine
but then i'd try to go back onto a street and it would stall out.  Let the
car sit for awhile then it ran just fine.

Now it does it all the time, as soon as you start the car it just pudders
and the engine cuts out.

I dont know what the problem is, we've check for oil in the distributor,
changed the coil wire but now we cant keep it running at all...

any ideas what it could be?  My car has always been wonderful and now I
cant even drive it...

thanks for your help!

Hi
I take it you've checked for spark, etc.
Have you checked your fuel filter? (that's easy/cheap to replace). It
could be fuel delivery or the fuel pressure could be wrong (perhaps the
fuel pressure regulator).

Is the mileage around 115 - 120 K . Do you have any engine check light.

If so it could be due to Error 34.

we just started having this problem today. Teh car is stalling when we come
to a stop and try to start up again. My husband said that if he fiddles
iwth the clutch (this is a 5 spd manual) it doesn't stall. Have youfigure
out what the problem is yet?

Shan1205, since fiddling with the clutch makes it work, does your car
start when in neutral?

If it stalls while in gear with the clutch pressed pressed but does not
stall while in neutral, your clutch probably needs some looking at.
Basically, if the clutch is engaging for whatever reason, it is like
starting the car in gear with the cluch out -- it will stall.

I have a 93 Altima. I had two problems with my Altima. These two issues
were very common for Altima and the Nissan dealer mechanic told me.

I had to get a new distributor. My car would lose engine power, but I
would see the RPM jump sporadically. My car even stalled a couple of times
while driving. This would happen while on the street or on the freeway,
which was really scary. The problem would not happen all the time...maybe
twice a week.

I also had to get a new Mass Air Flow sensor. My car would do run rough
and I can tell by the sound of the engine when I pressed on the gas pedal.
Also, when I started my car, I would have to pump on the gas pedal to get
the car started. If I didn't pump the gas, the car wouldn't start.

Now my car runs like new....

I had a problem in 2003 with my Altima stalling out while driving. Then
would be ok for awhile. Eventually, the mass air flow meter was replaced
and corrected the problem. That is, until today. It has started again
which is what led me here for help.

This happened to me too. Scary! I had to have my distributor replaced, as
well as the ecm computer and the wiring. (94 Altima GLE). The wiring had a
short and was burning up the newly installed computer. This was an expensive
repair! Now my auto transmission shifts hard. They may have pinched some
wires under the battery or engine. Unless my transmission failed at
precisely the same time.
