I am replacing the brake pads on all four wheels. The front was easy,
however I cannot get the piston to recess into the housing. I tried prying
it and using a C clamp to force it back. The front pistons recessed easily
and brake fluid collected in the resevour. Is there some trick to get the
rear brake pistons to recess?
JSH,
YOu need to go to the parts store and get a tool that screws the back
pistons in while you compress them. The parking brake is an integral
feature and that means that the piston slowly screws out as the pads
wear to take up the slack. That being said be sure to look for the
small pin on the back of the pad when installing the new ones and make
sure the slot on the piston lines up or you will get some interesting
pad wear.
