My wife has been looking for a 2005 Altima 2.5S w/SL package and
w/ABS-side airbag package. We can't seem to find a 4 cylinder with ABS
anywhere near Phoenix, AZ. Does Nissan actually build the 4 cylinder
with ABS? Or, do the dealers simply not order them? Dealers tell us
it shows as an available option but they never seem to get any.
Don't know why Nissan thinks ABS is not important to 4 cylinder buyers.
Does Nissan realize some people want the luxury (i.e., SL leather
package) and safety, but don't need a 6 cylinder for purely urban
driving? (Wasn't this the original premise when Nissan first intro'd
the Altima?) Anyway, may have to get a Camry because ABS is standard
and side airbags are readily available.

abs is not better, that is why. clearly, if you are as old as you are, you
should know how to drive better without ABS. abs is for panicky
improficient drivers, your young teenage girl or boy.
abs is a gimmick to get people to thinkthey are safer. if you would
'guess of your a.s' so to speak and learn proper braking without abs, you
would actually stop better than with ABS. if you want to refut this, sure,
but so some research first, ans you will find I'm right. ...

I bought a 4 cyl 2002 Altima 2.5S w/ABS and side airbags in Tucson in 2003.
The ABS and airbag package seemed like a good deal to me. I've only had
to use the ABS once. That was on a snowy, icy night in Germany when I was
taking my wife to the hospital because she was going into labor. The ABS
kept us from sliding into a ditch that night. Lesson learned...you may
only need to rely on the ABS once, but that one time may be more than
enough to justify the extra money spent.

well said, abs saved me twice this winter, sheer black ice on the road and
I was turning into a carpark without abs I would have rammed this bmw, I
stopped probably within 1 inch of his door. My insurance would have gone
through the roof. Other time was coming into my condo parking which is
inside parking, again it was sheer ice and stopped within inches of the
door before it opened. I got in and parked and ran to the garage door to
put some salt down and it was to late someone had completedly busted the
door off it's hinges and I talked to the guy and he said "there was nothing
I could do it was sheer ice" eh yea.
I don't care how good you are but in cases like mine nothing would have
stopped me except abs.

You can search dealers' inventories on-line at www.nissanusa.com. Just
configure the car with the options you want and then search the
inventories until you find one that matches. I looked for a 2.5S w/SL
package and with ABS/side airbag package. I found two in Phoenix, at
Brown & Brown in Tempe. They have two down in Tucson at Thoroughbred
Nissan. There is one at Jim Click Nissan in Tucson too.
Good luck.
