I have a 1996 Nissan Altima GXE. I suddenly noticed the more sound from
my car (as if there is some problem in the exhaust). When I saw
underneath my car, I saw some plug is hanging. I have no idea about
what is this plug and there is some wire also plugged in to this plug.
Can someone tell me whats the problem, before I take this to service
center/dealer.

Where did the plug come from? If it came from the wider part of the exhaust
that is located under the shift lever (rough location) it might be the O2
senson in the catalytic convertor. if that fell out you should get a check
engine light.

Thanks, you were correct. It was a O2 sensor. My catalytic converter
got rusted and it blew the O2 sensor. I had to replace the catalytic
converter ($200) + O2 sensor ($100) + labor $60 Total $360.
Did I get ripped off?.

that price seems pretty fair to me.
