Have 1999 Maxima. After releasing the emergency brake, the brake light on
dash stays on. Just started doing this yesterday. What do I need to check.
Emergency brakes are working, just light won't go off. Thanks for any info.

The light is for a couple other things too. Check your brake fluid level.

Thanks, needed fluid after all. Wifes car, and I didn't realize light was on
all time, not just when emergency brake was engaged. Was pretty low, but not
noticed any leaks. Is this a sign of trouble to come. Thanks for replys.

Unfortunately yes, it means you have a leak somewhere. The fluid
level will drop some as the brakes wear, but not to the point
where the light will come on.  Check around the master cylinder
as well as each of the brake calipers.

Maybe.  Could also just mean the pads are worn down and its time for a brake
job.

Check the switch in the console at the back of the handle.  It probably
needs to be adjusted
