My Maxima overheated awhile ago and I need to know what damage could
have been done because of it... My engine boiled out and my water pump
sprung a leak, I have no problem fixing the pump and timing belt but my
mechanic told me my car could have suffered major damage when it got so
hot. He said possible problems with the spark plugs, hoses and the
engine itself, as well as the radiator. My question is, is there anyway
to tell if the car has any one of these problems before I replace the
water pump and timing belt? would it be a waste of time?

Unfortunately, no, probably not possible to tell without fixing enough
to get it running again.

You are not going to know until you get the waterpump fixed. After that
you can check out the car and see how it runs and have a CO2 check on
the antifreeze to see if the head gaskets are blown and check the oil
for signs of antifreeze...
