Hi,

I have 99 GLE; used premium gas till today. I am thinking about
switching to regular...guess no need for the 'why' explanation :)

Anyone know the consequences of switching to regular 89 octane rated
gas after 6 years? Does the engine is going to choke after I switch to
regular? Also, if anyone has done it, do you empty the tank first to
avoid the mixed octane rated gas going to the engine?

Thanks.

If it pings heavy under load while using the lower OT gas it is not good
for the engine. I would not go lower then 89 give it a test. No need to
drain tank just add to whats aready in tank.

You won't hear it ping. It will retard the timing. The question is: will
you lose more in mileage than you gain in fuel savings? If it has more
than 80K or so, there's a good change your knock sensor is dead and
you're wasting money on premium anyway.

If you care for environment and possibility of CANCER for yourself/children,
continue using premium gas - less pollution/better milage/better engine
protection, yes it costs more and more, well: MAYBE you people should stop
hauling heavy nonessential things in your cars, I make 40+mpg precisely
because of remving everything possible even spar etire/wheel as I am covered
by 3-yea FREE roadside asst. (new car), maybe eat less junk, quit smoking,
walk and take trains/subway smore, ok
We Americans are called gringos for a reason, too much driving, it make sme
sick looking at fat bastards here in Brooklyn driving a few blocks to a
supermarket, why not walk, da hell the person loooks like a jelly with a
huge belly

what does "gringo" have to do with driving....did i miss something?

first you criticize people for driving too much, and not taking mass
transit, then brag about your great mileage?

Not only that, carrying no spare tire means a required visit from the
roadside assistance crew in the event of a flat tire.  The ones areound
here are usually quite large turbo diesel trucks that probably burn
more fuel and harm the environment more getting to me than if I
sacraficed 50lbs and changed my own tire!
