higher rpm hesitation

I have a 2000 model and has you accelerate the engine hesitates at
around 4500 rpm and then continues smoothly to redline.  I just had the
clutch hydraulics repaired as the slave cylinder craped out.  A friendly
mechanic suggested (before the clutch repair) the clutch could of been
slipping.  Now with the clutch repaired, I am looking for your feedback
on what it could be.

The 2000 (and later) Maximas have a 2 stage variable intake manifold.
I've seen stories on maxima.org of them failing to switchover. Perhaps
yours is acting up. Have the dealer check it.

Interestingly, the 2000-2001 intake manifolds were plastic, yet the
95-99s were metal. Then, in 2002, Nissan went back to metal intake
manifolds. Hmmmmmmmmm.......
