I know there were many people having this problem on Maxima's 4th
generation. My Maxima engin is suddenly shaking bad. First, it only
happened when I stopped at D or R shift, but now it happens while
driving too. Since the Service Engine Soon SES is not lighted, so I
could not find what trouble codes. Some people, who had this same
problem, had taken to dealer but could not find the exact problem.
Most cases were just guessing (ignition coil, spark plugs, MAF...).
For instance, the example below. If ignition coil or MAF problem, then
the SES should be lighted. Whoever acknowledge this problem and have
it solved. I would appreciate for your advice.

I have a 1999 Nissan maxima with 60k. I took my car to Bert Ogden
Nissan
dealership in McAllen TX. because the "service engine soon" light
came on
and my car was not performing well. It drives smooth but every time it
is
in a complete stop or on park, the car would start to go FORWARD or
SHAKE.
They said that it needs all six engine coil, so I did pay $650.00.
When I
took it home, the car started to do the same think and then the light
went
on again. As of right now, it have been almost two weeks that they can
not
find the problem. They have replaced the harness and the computers but
it
is still the same. I'm very up sad and don't know what to do. If
any one
can help me out, I really appreciate your help and your info.

It is not shaking all the time. On and off while driving or stop at
traffic.... So, I guess that if motor mount, it would shake all the
time.
Thanks,

My 95 SE (purchased May 94) has a 5-speed, so I don't know if there are
any potential problems related to auto trans (vacuum leak or electrical).
The only thing that has caused rough idle or power loss for me has been
failed injectors (a common problem). I had 3 or 4 of them go out, one at
a time over the years, and only once did the check engine light come on
the same day (during a trip). The other times the light did not come on
for several weeks to a month (maybe intermittant injector failure).
I did have the knock sensor replaced once, but that might have been a
false positive at the time one of the injectors failed. The only other
engine related electrical devices that ever failed were O2 sensors which
did not affect how the engine ran. Never any problems with ignition.
It is still going strong and a joy to drive.

If problem is cylinder misfire
- MAF affects via ECU; all cylinders behave 'equally' ba
- Coilpacks/Injectors may be disconnected and/or swapped = bad individual trace
- fuel pressure check with a pressure gaug
- ECU has the coil/injector driver circuit
- everythin is affected by pwr supply. Check voltage at ECU, all groundings, engine related connectors for oxidation; check/read http://www.cardomain.com/ride/748507/1
- Disconnect alt charge wires to test/troubleshoot for possible noise
